Put art you made with AI on a shirt
An AI image tool makes a picture in seconds. Getting it onto a shirt takes three checks: is it big enough, is the background right, and is it yours to print. Then your AI can hand you the link.
1. Is it big enough?
Most AI image tools hand you a picture between about 1,000 and 2,000 pixels across. We print well at 150 pixels per inch, so:
| 1,024 pixels | about 6.8 in across: plenty for the left chest (3.5 in), a cap or a tumbler; too small for a back print, which needs at least 1,500 |
|---|---|
| 1,536 pixels | about 10.2 in across: a good back print, just short of the largest |
| 1,800 pixels | fills a 12 in back print |
| 3,600 pixels | a back print at 300 pixels per inch, as sharp as print gets |
If your tool has an upscale, “high resolution” or “large” option, use it before you download. The make page reads the size of your file and tells you how big it prints before you buy.
2. Get the background right
- Ask for a transparent background, as a PNG. On a white shirt, a plain white background also works.
- Watch for a fake transparent background: a grey-and-white checkerboard drawn into the picture itself. It prints exactly like that. If you see the checkerboard, ask again for a real transparent PNG.
- Keep text and fine detail away from the very edges, and avoid tiny lettering on a small print: on a 3.5 in chest print, words need to be large in the picture to read on the shirt.
3. Is it yours to print?
Print what you made. Other people’s characters, logos, team names and brand names are not yours to print, even when an AI drew them for you. When you order, you confirm that you own the art or have permission to print it, as our Terms say.
4. Let your AI hand you the link
If your assistant can browse the web or write links, ask it something like: “Make me a 1211 link to put this picture on a black hoodie, printed on the back.” It writes a link like this one, with your picture’s address in it:
https://1211holding.com/make?item=hoodie&color=Black&side=back&art=https://example.com/your-picture.png
Open it, check the preview, pick sizes, and pay. The link only works when the picture is at a public web address. Pictures inside a chat are usually private to that chat: if the page can’t load yours, download the picture and upload it on the page instead, which takes a few seconds.
